Raw prejudice
After watching the movie "Food Matters", I had a mixture of reactions. I felt they were pushing the vitamin thing a little too far, Thousands of times the RDA of vitamin C is purported by some to cure cancer, but reviews of the evidence are highly controversial. What I took from it for myself is that it is certainly not harmful for me to take a multivitamin every day, and it might be helpful. So I started taking my vitamins again.
They also pushed raw food pretty hard. I appreciate what they are saying about the value of fresh, raw foods and the loss of some nutrients when you cook food. However, cooking also releases other nutrients that you otherwise wouldn't get. The raw vegan movement has always seemed a bit extreme to me, leading to things like frutarianism and other such highly limited dietary arrangements as to be unhealthy, in my opinion.
However, after the movie I did a search for raw food recipes to see if there might be anything I would like. I'm somewhat picky about fruits and very picky about legumes, so I assumed most of it would be unappealing to me. But the first recipe that I found, on "goneraw.com" was for "groovy guacamole". It looked great so I tried it. Laurel, who lived in Santa Fe for years and who *knows* good guacamole, said it was one of the best she'd ever had. Go figure! It's now here on the site for you to enjoy, too.
I went back to the site and saw what looks like a really yummy Pico de Gallo recipe....I'm glad I overcame my prejudice enough to take a look at what raw food has to offer!
